No Accountability

Since 1990 over 1500 people have died while in contact with the police, it’s ironic that in a society where it is necessary to police men that the perpetrators of these same crimes are police-men. In this body of work, I present scenes of murder and injustice in the form of landscapes where the location is just as significant as the murder. Looking through the deaths in police custody/ contact it is apparent that this is not just an ethnic or racial issue, all races and genders have been killed. It is important to be aware of these events as they have very much shaped the society of London and by extension the rest of the United Kingdom, for example the shooting of Mark Duggan sparked the London riots. In the investigation surrounding the shooting it was deemed by 7 out of 10 officers that Mark Duggan was unarmed at the time he was shot yet it was concluded by a majority verdict that it was a lawful killing.

No Police officer has ever been convicted of an unlawful killing.
