Wabi-Sabi

Definition: A concept in traditional Japanese aesthetics constituting a world view centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.”

Influenced by the book ‘The Body’ by William Ewing, this project is made up of abstract studies of the human flesh. Through the use of strongly lit black and white close-ups, it forces the viewer to explore the varying textures, tones and forms of the flesh and appreciating these unique characteristics of the human figure as beautiful, as opposed to the preconceived idea of being ‘imperfect’.
