Over 25 million tons of old vehicles are scrapped each year, making automobiles the most recycled consumer object.
Building a close relationship with the owner of a salvage yard gave me an insight into the processes of scrappage and reclamation. In these images, we see the detail and scale of the process and environment often overlooked.
‘One person’s loss is another person’s gain’ fits well with the salvage industry. This suggestion of treasure is embraced in this project both in the material photographed and also in the visual richness of the textures revealed.
